I didn’t want to do graphic design, I wanted to make films. Yet, here we are 4 years later and I know more about fonts than lens flares and I no longer associate the term resolution with December 31st. It’s safe to say studying graphic design gave me a whole new perspective. Over the last few of years at university, I discovered that my strengths lie in digital illustration and animation supported by a broad understanding of branding and digital marketing. My tendency to collect new skills means that I have experience anticipating limitations and conceptualising workable solutions. This resourcefulness has been essential in my roles as Design and Marketing Assistant for the University of Leeds and as Head of Design for Leeds Student radio. And when I’m not memorising lyrics to popular British grime songs and constructing fancy-dress costumes out of cardboard (we all have our hobbies) I am finding ways to be better at the things I enjoy. Namely, communicating stories that are just waiting to be heard.
Projects
Earlier in the year I developed a concept and product for a vitamin D light called ‘Lette Opp’. This was aimed at those living in northern Norway, where daylight hours reduce to zero in the winter months and therefore do not received enough vitamin D. For my final project I combined my obsession with animation with my interest in people and developed a brand for a new psychology television channel ‘Ology’. For this project I set out to push myself (and my laptop) to its limits by experimenting with 3D animation. From this I was able to create professional channel idents and technically complex title sequences.
