Hello! My name is Karolina Polasik (surprising fact: my name is pronounced more like Caroleena!). I fell in love with graphic design when I attended the art school in my motherland country, where I was shown how closely related art and design art. I think this Eastern-European attitude – that design is art and design art is design, shows in my work. It is an attitude I take pride in.
I am a person of many interests. These include, besides the obvious – design, subjects such as fine arts, literature and philosophy. Hence my plans in taking further education in this last field. My dream life consists of giving lectures of philosophy, writing books, and designing for the right cause. This is the field of design I am most interested in – designing for others, for good ideas, for the betterment of society. Child’s idealism never dies.
The core of my final independent project is an illustrated book telling a story of my mother, who is a stroke survivor and a very special person. It is a very personal project, dealing with disability, loss, challenge and a fresh hope. It shows a human side of something that lots of people see only as an abstract, almost taboo concept: disability. I am glad to show you some of the illustrations that mean so much to me, and hopefully now they can mean something to you too!
