REBECCA COX FASHION DESIGN BA HONS, UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS SPECIALISM: WOMENSWEAR Digital Portfolio – https://beckyycoxdesign.myportfolio.com Design Instagram – beckyycoxdesign
Highlight of my degree … Year in Industry. My internship was based in the Netherlands at O’Neill Europe. Throughout that time I was part of the womenswear team.
The highlight of my internship: I produced a retail SS19 collection. Seeing the process right through from initial designs to final collection and seeing the collection in store was a real achievement.
Coming back to university to complete my final year, gave me so much confidence and I really found myself as a designer.
My design aesthetic … Always print driven, sporty, fun, colourful, bold. I’m really inspired by my upbringing. I’m from a small seaside town. I’m really into surfing, water sports.
I really look for print and colour, you will see in my work a lot of juxtaposition of bold print and colours: unexpected mixing of print, colour and fabric.
Recent work … I’m constantly inspired by my surroundings, experiences, cultures, music, innovations and people I meet. My recent design work originates from design concepts that have evolved into collections aimed at different consumer markets.
Commercial eye… At the heart of anything I design I ultimately want people to feel good in garments.
Sustainability factors considered… Design shouldn’t be limited due to sustainable constraints, collaborative process working with merchandising, supply chain management, sourcing and design to utilise excess materials. I cannot go into this industry unless I know I’m doing what I can to pro- mote a more sustainable future. Innovation. Communication.
