I am a womenswear designer from London, graduating from the university of Leeds. During my 4 years at Leeds I have learnt to develop my own style, particularly in final year. Finishing my degree, I believe I have a strong design process and identity. I have a keen interest in environmental sustainability and conscious consumerism. This interest is reflected in my graduate collection, where I created my own brand ENSO, which promotes longevity through multifunctional design. In addition, my dissertation which explores cheap copies in the fashion industry and its effects on creativity and the environment.
My portfolio features 4 additional projects which I have loved working on. I chose a range of brand levels so my portfolio would be versatile, ranging from sportswear to high-end. The concepts chosen reflect a variety of interests: Beginning with ‘AMA’ designed for Charlotte Knowles, this collection takes inspiration from the AMA women, known as Japanese deep sea pearl divers and famous for their great strength. Looking at the contrast of the woman’s scuba gear and printed blouses they wear to dive, the collection captures the AMA women’s feminine yet functional aesthetic. Additional concepts take inspiration from: The iconic photographer Slim Aarons, the Moulin Rouge in the 1890’s and modern dancer and choreographer Merce Cunningham and collaborations in the common time exhibit. All concepts can be seen in more depth via my online portfolio.
I worked at high street supplier, Stuart Peters during my year in industry, where I assisted the: Jerseywear, outerwear, sleepwear and knitwear teams. My role was very varied and I gained experience in: creating tech packs, seasonal colour and fabric research, presenting seasonal design ranges, pulling inspiration from the catwalk and designing ranges which were then sold in store.
Since the closure of Leeds University, I have been making the rest of my collection independently at home, which is something I never thought I’d be able to do without the help of our technicians. Whilst I never envisioned my degree would end this way I am convinced good things are to come and I am grateful for the support from our tutors, technicians and proud to be a part of the class of 2020.
