My name is Jess Fairhurst and I’m a graduate looking for a job suited to my degree. I am originally from Manchester and I have completed a degree in Graphic Communication and Design at the University of Leeds. I am flexible to work anywhere within the UK and look forward to getting stuck into the creative industry.
Design and the creative industry inspires me as without it the world would for sure be a boring place. I believe design can change our perception and interaction with everything, therefore I strive to create beautiful work that is also practical.
The four images I have chosen to show are of the four projects I completed in my final year at University.
‘MEND THAT TREND’
‘Mend that Trend’ was set by the D&AD sustainable fashion project set for 2020. This project allowed me to be more creative with producing something that could actually make a difference with contemporary fashion consumption. Although I do love shopping for clothes, I think it’s important to support sustainable fashion so this project was fab to get involved in.
‘UNPLUG YOU MUG’
This advertising campaign was created to raise awareness around the amount of time we spend on technology to a millennial audience. Millennials are known to have a very short attention span – this means making advertising super engaging and aesthetically pleasing. I came up with an illustrated trail that takes people away from there gadgets for at least an hour to get involved in a hunt around Leeds using visual prompts to find the ending. Once you had completed the hunt you were rewarded with free MEND THAT TREND merchandise.
BEAM By TELENATION
TELENATION is a fictional company based around the idea that teleportation is real. No matter how macho we want to come across nobody likes insects coming into their personal bubble – therefore, TELENATION presents BEAM. BEAM is a lightbulb that works in a variety of spaces, (Coffee shops, Bars, Camping and at home) to create a vibey, insect free space for you to enjoy. It simply teleports the insects away from your location to an environment that suits them. This then creates an ecosystem for the bugs to thrive in.
GOODBEER
GOODBEER is exactly what it says on the can… good beer! I have been lucky enough to be able to brew my own beer with an experienced home brewer. Whilst doing this it brought to my attention that beer isn’t always catered for everyone. GOODBEER caters for all dietary intolerances under one roof. This brewery allows everyone to get involved in the delights of craft beer with a unique on shelf stand out using bold design and labels that you can peel away to reveal their nutritional value.
If you have any more inquiries about my work please feel free to contact me or check out my Instagram account (@jessfairhurstdesigns). It would be great to show you my full projects.
Many Thanks,
Jess Fairhurst
