I am an experimental designer with a strong motivation for more sustainable design. My degree collections focus on structured textiles for high-end fashion, where the most recent work stretches the potential of used and unwanted materials.

An Eastern and Western perspective always influences contrast within my work as I enjoy expressing cultural identity throughout design. My final design collection explores the use of hand processes to transform unwanted materials, adding value to couture garments that represent a multi-local culture in today’s digital age. Craftsmanship is important to me as a designer (and to society as well); I wish to bring this quality and value to the forefront of contemporary fashion concepts, as a way of bringing people together through involved processes.

The key skills that I have embraced throughout my practice are hand drawing, digital design, editorial presentation and hand making processes such as macramé and embroidery. Critical thinking is something valuable I have learnt during my time at Leeds University, making sure that my work is always meaningful and appropriate for a contemporary context whilst also reflecting myself as a designer. I now hope to continue applying my creative and wishful thinking to the changes in trends within the fashion industry, through reducing waste and making use of materials that would otherwise go to landfill.

I’m currently looking for a graduate employment opportunity which will enhance the skills I gained during my placement year and also broaden my experience. I’m keen to contribute to a design company who delves deep into its inspiration and current concepts to create meaningful outcomes and inspire positive change. I would love to develop a future-facing design approach to fashion, as well as exploring other related fields, and I would very much like to undertake an Masters degree one day related to sustainable design.
