The garden has become a vital space providing nourishment, tranquillity and exposure to nature outside of the home, made evident in the recent weeks of the corona virus lockdown. It was once a fraction of my daily life and the spaces I inhabited, but now has become an essential place and resource for creative thinking

My work is an in depth investigation into the importance of place, exploring the physical site of the residential garden. The work investigates the transition from the microclimate to macroclimate. I highlight the visual and spatial importance of the garden for wellbeing and examine the value of outdoor space.

The work explores how light installations can be used to create experiential, almost spiritual, scenographic assemblies, using the garden as a site. Use of projections to mimic the patterns of rain shows the aesthetic beauty of the weather. Lockdown amplifies the interest into these every day, often overlooked natural occurrences. I attempt to capture these small happenings and preserve them to allow the viewer to retain a sense of connection with the outdoors even when inside.

The work also examines the designing of domestic objects, which embody the essence of the garden. The use of soil connects the external environment with the internality of the home, juxtaposing household objects and raw, natural materials. I am interested in combining the outdoors with the domestic environment by embodying a sense of place through sculpture, installation and photography.
