My University Journey:
Since starting my Fashion Design degree journey in 2016 I have continued to see my development throughout the years. Specifically, with the use of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, going from little knowledge on the programmes to completing four final collections using different tools from both.
My year in industry is where I have seen the most development in myself, not only with my industry skills such as sewing but my confidence and people skills.
For nine months I worked at a small brand based in Coventry specialising in festival clothing that is handmade. To start my job role was “sewing assistant” but as my confidence grew this led to me being in charge of emails, other customer messages and some of the selling platforms. This allowed me to see different parts of the industry and prepared me for my final year of university.
Adidas: Destruction
My first design concept is a seasonless athleisure collection for the brand Adidas. Adidas has actively begun to include recycled fabrics and seasonless items to support long lasting fashion instead of fast fashion. I wanted to take this a step further with my collection; the inspiration being the destruction of our oceans. Plastic is a well-known polluter to our oceans but there are many more including shipping, fishing, and the fashion / textiles industry. These elements have influenced colour, patterns, and details. Fabrics include Lycra, nylon and French terry ensuring the garments can be worn all year round.
Amur: The Living In comparison to my previous design concept, this collection was inspired by the living of the ocean, designed for luxury brand Amur. As a brand Amur has a feminine feel to it, well known for its prints – specifically floral. With my design concept I wanted to add to this but by creating something different. I did this by using the design concept to create abstract prints and the colours to make them vibrant and eye catching. This included looking at the water, the seabed, the underwater plants, and the sea creatures. The fabrics in this concept were all silk, to give that true luxury feeling
