Systems of Flaw combines sculpture, drawing and photography to explore the natural phenomena of the neurological systems within the human body, which are fundamental to human life. The microscopic networks allow humans to understand the empirical world by taking information collected by our peripheral senses, such as sight, and transferring that information via an electrochemical signal along a system of cells into the brain, where that information is synthesised. The average human brain contains 86 billion neurons, which form the central nervous system within the human body. Systems of Flaw seeks to incite questions surrounding the introduction of flaw into these systems, and how that flaw impacts both the system and the human symbiotically.

Systems of Flaw is constructed in both naturally formed materials, such as wood, and synthetic materials such as epoxy; the juxtaposition of the natural and the artificial is deliberate and serves to give reference to the macro dimension of natural networks, and the role of humans within these wider ecological systems. This aspect of the practice is informed by Gaia Theory (1960s), proposed by scientist James Lovelock (1919), which proposes that earth is a living organism, alongside its inhabitants, which are interconnected- bound by their roles in the ever-regressive system. Systems of Flaw seeks to interrogate the relationship that we as humans have in this system, and make inferences to how we have somewhat lost touch with our primitive roles and duty to nature in our post-modern world.
