Ellie Scull

I’ve wanted to be an illustrator for as long as I can remember but I’ve always been wary of putting all my eggs in one basket. Studying Graphic and Communication Design at Leeds has helped me broaden my skill set far beyond what I thought I could achieve from the outset.

I strongly believe that creatives should always use their abilities to make the world a better place where they can. I’m incredibly passionate about designing for a healthier environment and for building stronger communities, as well as creating illustrations that simply bring people joy.

Many of my projects over the last few years have allowed me to showcase my own personal beliefs and values. The Great Bin Rescue is an illustrated children’s book that teaches readers about food waste at home through the medium of infographics. Let It Mellow is a sustainability project that aims to raise consciousness about water waste and suggests a (rather unorthodox) way for people to save water in their daily lives. Finally,Ruth is a charity that aims to raise awareness of women’s homelessness in the UK and the myriad of reasons behind it, as well as provide a compassionate and inclusive support service to homeless women themselves. This project also includes my first foray into motion work, using frame-by-frame animation to tell an emotive story.

With a broad range of creative projects already under my belt, I’m excited to discover the challenges and opportunities that the future of my creative career will bring me.
