My practice is concerned with investigating patterns, and forms found within nature. The exploration of these notions was inspired initially by Da Vinci’s theory of the connection between the human body and nature, for example, the evident similarity between the flow of blood through our veins and the flow of water through the leaf of a plant.
I have focused primarily on fungi, to investigate their natural growth patterns, structures and forms. My work has been primarily created using printmaking, specifically dry-point etching. This process allows for the creation of fine, delicate, and precise lines which bodes well with the subject matter, as natural forms are often extremely intricate and complex in appearance.
My individual prints each highlight the patterns and shapes within natural organisms, through the manipulation of colour and tone, creating variations in each print. When different plates are overlapped, depth and dimension can be added, allowing for colour and line to interact.
I have recently been working with watercolour, which offers more transparency but is similar to printmaking in allowing for the creation of intricate, delicate lines whilst incorporating varied colour and tone.
