My time at the University of Leeds has allowed me to explore the subject of Graphic Design and Visual Communication in great depth, both practically and theoretically.
I have acquired invaluable skills to bring with me into industry in the modules that I have completed throughout the programme including; video editing and moving image composition, illustration, typography, book design and photography.
The projects completed in my final year allowed me to demonstrate how my skillset could be applicable across industries and touch-points: creating content for a bike hire scheme, a luxury drinks company, a medical makeup brand and a fictional teleportation company. Produced for these projects were: brand identities, apps, websites, print advertisements, guerrilla advertisements, merchandise, social media content, animations and film work.
Amongst the theory that I have studied are subjects of; sustainability and green design, design technology, design management and trends, marketing creativity and innovation, material culture and mass consumption.
As well as the completion of these modules, I completed my own independent research project on traditional advertising efficiency in the new digital era, titled: In the age of social media marketing and advertising by means of online influencers; could graphically designed advertisements become redundant?
Prior to attending Leeds University, I graduated from Ulster University with a distinction in an Art and Design Foundation Diploma, for which I gained recognition on the University’s Dean’s List.
Throughout my four years of higher education study I have found my area of greatest interest and strength to be in advertisement design. The programme has developed not only my visual and artistic capabilities, but also my conceptual ideation and creative thinking. I find particular enjoyment in copywriting and typographic print designs, as well as product photography and video direction.
