This collection takes inspiration from natural forms and textures, which have been observed and abstracted in order to inform the design development. Both structural and jacquard knitwear designs have been explored in order to create a varied collection. Furthermore, modern art and design has influenced the style, structure and colour palette of the knitted fabrics, aiding the develop a contemporary aesthetic. Mark Rothko, Bridget Riley, Ruth Asawa and Missoni have been particularly inspiring.

Materials selection is something I consider crucial within knitwear design in relation to both the quality and sustainability of knitted garments. The intended materials for this collection would be a combination of 100% merino wool and a merino wool and cashmere blend. Throughout the lifecycle of wool, compared to other fibres, there is a low energy and water input, which lessens the environmental impact. Furthermore, wool is readily biodegradable and easy to recycle, which reduces the impact at the end of life. The garments are intended to be durable, timeless designs, therefore encourage less consumption of multiple knitted garments. Reducing the level of fashion consumption is a key element when striving to create a more sustainable fashion industry.
